The South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association is a professional organization that promotes the study of all areas of performance and oral communication: acting, oral interpretation/performance studies, theatre, broadcasting, public speaking, discussion and debate, and speech/theatre education. SCSTA serves both the public and private schools and the colleges and universities in South Carolina through three spring festival competitions, and through recognition of outstanding contributors to our efforts. SCSTA holds three division festivals annually (College, High School, and Middle School).
The festivals for Middle School, High School, and College students are held annually. These one-day festivals include individual and small group events in a variety of categories such as Audition Monologue, Duet Acting, Original Monologues, Reader's Theatre, Impromptu Speaking, and Musical Theatre. All participants receive feedback from adjudicators. Students receiving the highest scores in their rounds advance to finals, and the top 3 performers in each category are recognized at an awards ceremony at the end of the day.
The mission of the South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association is to encourage a passion for excellence in Speech & Theatre education in South Carolina

Recent horrific events across the nation, a dramatic climax of too many acts of violence toward people of color occurring around our country, are tragic and heartbreaking. These are glaring reminders of the dangers our black colleagues and students face daily. The South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association is committed to fighting against racism and discrimination wherever and however it exists. We wholeheartedly condemn any expression of bigotry toward people of culturally diverse backgrounds.
We see the jarring inequalities black communities have and continue to face every day and it strengthens our resolve to do more as individuals, as an organization, and in our state. Systemic mistreatment and disenfranchisement of people of color in our country must be met with constant vigilance.
Now, more than ever, each of us must be inclusive in our work to educate and ignite positive change within ourselves, within the younger generation we teach and within the scholastic institutions we operate. We must foster a fundamental respect for the dignity of every person, regardless of color. We hope to work with you to build foundations of respect and honor for all your students and your communities.
We speak out against racism in all its forms.
We stand with our fellow black artists, colleagues, students and community.
We raise our voices in support of you and in honor of lives tragically lost.
We shine a spotlight on their stories.
Sincerely,
The Executive Council of the South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association
